Garvit Batra and S Snehadevi Reddy won the under-16 boys’ and girls’ title respectively in the Fenesta National tennis championships at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex on Saturday.

Garvit outlasted a tenacious Shashank Nautiyal  7-5, 4-6, 6-2 while Snehadevi rallied to score a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Pranjalla Yadlapalli.

In the U-14 boys’ singles, top seed B R Nikshep of Karnataka emerged champion with a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 win over Sani Jagtiani of West Bengal.

The momentum swung sharply in the boys’ final, that lasted three hour and 25 minutes, but it was Garvit who came on top. He took a 4-1 lead in the opening set but Shashank mixed his game well to draw parity at 4-4. However, he couldn’t continue in the same vein and was broken in 12th game by Garvit with a powerful forehand crosscourt winner to clinch the set.

Shashank, however, got off to a sound start in the second. He notched up a 5-3 lead and soon it was one set apiece.

In the decider, both the players were a spent force and Shashank even called for his trainer.

Garvit broke him in the sixth game before serving out the match the very next game.
In the girls’ U-14 singles final, Delhi girl Vanshika Sawhney got the better of Mihika Yadav 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Former India cricket captain Kapil Dev was the chief guest.
