Guru Bhavana to see light of day after decade

Rs 1.50 crore spent on structure; Ex-PM to inaugurate

District Guru Bhavana which had been dreams of teachers would come into reality on Wednesday (October 31), as it would be inaugurated on the day by ex prime minister H D Deve Gowda.

Speaking to media on Monday, DDPI A T Chamaraj said that the construction works of the building has almost been completed with minimal works to be finished. He said that the auditorium would facilitate district teachers to conduct programmes.

The bhavan also has accommodation facilities which would add to the advantage and be of use for teachers and students who arrive at district from other places.

The two storey Guru Bhavan has a full fledged auditorium, dining hall, kitchen on ground floor with rooms, toilets, bathrooms on first floor.

As the building is situated in heart of the city, planning is done for providing space for commercial use. As many as 14 shops have been given on lease.

Elaborating on it, Chamaraj said that it is open for public for ceremonies and programmes on rental basis. He said programmes related to teachers would get an discount of 50 per cent.

Expenditure

Noting that Rs 1.50 crore was utilised for the structure, he said, additional of Rs 25 lakh is required for its accomplishment.

He said that the project dated back to the time when H D Deve Gowda was prime minister and Rs 20 lakh against sanctioned fund of Rs 20 lakh from National Teachers Welfare Fund was released for the purpose. Though foundation stone was laid a decade back, works were initiated just two years ago. As much as Rs 1.02 crore was collected by the leased stalls and interest of the unutilised fund added it to Rs 11.56 lakh. Recently Rs five lakh was alloted from MP fund and 36 lakh from Teachers welfare fund.   

Deve Gowda would inaugurate the Guru Bahavana at 1.45 pm on the day, district in charge minster Aravind H Limbavali would inaugurate auditorium, primary and secondary school education minister Visweshwara Kageri would inaugurate the programme. MLA H S Prakash would preside and other dignitaries would participate.
