Kochi Metro runs into trouble

The efforts of the Kerala government to entrust the execution of Rs 5000-crore Kochi Metro Rail project to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has suffered a severe setback with Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath rejecting the proposal.

The minister said on Monday that the corporation is not in a position to take up the project since it is preoccupied with activities of Delhi metro’s second and third phases.Kamal Nath indicated this at a discussion which Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, said sources.Chandy will meet Delhi Chief Minister Sheela Dixit to pressure her to direct the DMRC to take up the work.

Against the backdrop, E Sreedharan, former managing director of the DMRC, who is the chief adviser to the state on the project, will be called here on October 31 to find a solution to the stalemate.
