CPI to join strike in Dec

The Communist Party of India (CPI)  will extend its support to the two-day nation-wide general strike on December 18 and 19 by trade unions against Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail trade — among other issues, said CPI National Secretary Amarjeet Kaur.

Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Tuesday Kaur said that FDI in retail will affect more than four crore small traders, shopkeepers, marginal and poor farmers, and other small producers of goods.

“Trade unions will observe the All India Law Violation Day on December 18 and 19. To further the campaign, a ‘March to the Parliament’ will be conducted on December 20,” Kaur said.
