Eight persons have been arrested for involvement in two cases of drug trafficking.

Seven persons — Prem Kumar, Sonu Sehgal, Dayanand, Sanjay Dubey, Manoj Verma, Bimal Kishore and Amit Maggu — were held for alleged involvement in manufacturing and supplying of pseudoephedrine tablets, police said.

Thirty kilograms of pseudoephedrine tablets worth Rs 12 lakh were recovered from them, police added. “They were held during separate raids conducted at different parts of the country in the past 15 days,” said S B S Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

During investigation, it came to light that Prem used to work with a registered medical practitioner for about nine years and then opened a clinic of his own.

“He also started supplying medicines and used to get loose medicines manufactured through Dayanand and Sanjay,” Tyagi added.

Held with opium

A man was held with two kilograms of opium worth Rs 2 lakh. Jagdish Bishnoi, 32, of Badhmer in Rajasthan, was apprehended on Monday over tip-off that he was supplying opium in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.

“The information was further developed and Jagdish was held near Kohat Metro station,” Tyagi said.
