K T Gatti, Aziz, Mohan among 19 selected for DK Rajyotsava awards

Dakshina Kannada Rajyotsava Award Selection Committee has chosen 19 achievers including an organisation for the district Kannada Rajyotsava award this year.

The awards will be conferred by the District-in-Charge Minister at Kannada Rajyotsava programme that will be held at Nehru Maidan on Thursday.

Announcing the awardees list on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda said that for the first time the district administration had formed a committee for selecting the awardees. The committee chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dayanand consisted of Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Dr K Harish Kumar, Kannada and Culture Department Deputy Director Manjula V Naik, DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva.

“Due to several complaints in the past over the selection procedure for the award, the district administration formed a committee this year. The number of awardees too has been restricted to 19, to maintain the quality and all the awardees have been selected based on their achievements in the respective fields,” he said.  

Awardees

The awardees are as follows: K T Gatti, Aziz Baikampady, Shantaram Acharya (literature); Prof S Prabhakar Ujire (education); Puttur Sridhar Bhandari (yakshagana); Prakash Karanth Narikombu, Sridhar Bhat Mahabala Poojary Kadambodi (social work); Rohini Subbaratnam Kanchana (music); Jeevan Ram Sullia (theatre); Lokayya Sere (folk-daivaradhane); Edward Takode (agriculture); Mohan Sonangeri (art); Sharada Mani Shekhar (dance); Ashok Vardhan (environment); Ramakrishna Ashram (organisation) Gayatri Navada (research); Ronald Anil Fernandes (media); Kodipady Narayana Jois (religious-culture).

Special awards will be conferred on Sahana Kumari and Sadananda Prabhu for their achievements in sports.

The district administration in association with DK Kannada Sahitya Parishat will organise Kannada Rajyotsava programme with grandeur on Thursday. The programme will mark a cultural procession from Jyothi Circle to Nehru Maidan at 7.45 am. It will be followed by the formal programme at Nehru Maidan that will be inaugurated by District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi. Cultural programmes will be organised at Town Hall 3.30 pm onwards.
