Village assistants plan protest

Members of the Karnataka State Government Revenue Department Grama Sahayakara Sangha on Wednesday threatened to launch a State-wide protest from November 7 if the State government fails to fulfill their demands.

Addressing reporters, Sangha president Muddukrishna said the government should fulfill all the demands before November 5. Otherwise, about 10,000 village assistants across the

Prominent demands include declaring village assistants as ‘D’ group employees and granting pension to all those who have already retired. Currently, village assistants get a monthly salary of Rs 3,500, he added.

He further said the members are planning to stage a dharna at Freedom Park in Bangalore on November 7. About 2,000 members are planning to take out a padayatra from Tumkur to Bangalore, as part of the protest, he added.
