One more held for gun attack on realtor

The Central Crime Branch of the City police have arrested another associate of Hebbat Manja, a rowdy holed up in Bangkok, in connection with a gun attack on real estate baron Dayananda Pai last month.

Police Commissioner B G Jyothi Prakash Mirji gave the name of the arrested as Mallikarjun, 30, a resident of Thimmapur in Dharwad taluk.

Police also recovered two .9mm pistols and 30 bullets from Mallikarjun, who is the brother of Subash Bheemappa arrested recently in connection with the same case.

Bheemappa was arrested by the police two days ago along with Santosh, 25, a resident of Sampangi Ramaiah Layout in Hesaraghatta.

Santosh worked as a broadcasting engineer with a Kannada news channel. “Vignesh, another aide of Hebbat Manja, arrested on October 21, provided valuable tips about Bheemappa and Santosh,” the commissioner said.

“Santosh, who has been very close to Manja, provided all technical assistance to Bheemappa in Pai’s case. He also helped Subash escape after the shooting and continued to be in touch with Manja. Police are yet to arrest a few others, including Manja, in this connection,” Mirji said.

Closed-circuit TV footages recorded at a commercial establishment on Vani Villas Road near the National College, where the incident took place, helped the police arrest Vignesh. Ten live bullets have been recovered from him, police said.

Subash and Vignesh followed Pai on a two-wheeler and opened fire when his car approached the Basavanagudi flyover.
