Aimed at improving the performance of the staff of the civic body, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has constituted an annual award for its employees and individual departments who perform exceptionally well during the year.

On a day when the EDMC completed six months of its formation, Commissioner of East Delhi Muncipal Corporation S S Yadav said that Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Achievement would be given to those employees, or a team of employees, who come up with an out of the box idea and execute it, apart from doing their routine job.

“An external body would be roped in to judge the performance of the employees. Nominations for the award would be done between April 1 to 15. The winner would be awarded on May 1 when the  corporation completes one year of its formation,” said Yadav.

While the individual winner would be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 25,000, the team would get Rs 1 lakh.

Earlier, East Delhi mayor Annapurna Mishra also released a booklet consisting of achievements of the boyd in the last six months.

Mishra congratulated the two wings for working well. Among the major achievements counted by the mayor include, simplification of procedures for obtaining different types of licences, increased garbage disposal and sanitation drive for giving east Delhi a facelift, planting at least a lakh trees, rejuvenation of Shahadra lake, better community service with construction of community centres other development work using funds of Trans Yamuna Board and Councillor fund and improving health services by upgrading dispensaries and hospital.

She said parking woes where also looked into by increasing surface parkings from 12 to 50. Mishra added that municipal properties were re-developed to increase revenue.
S S Yadav building a working team of  the executive and deliberative wing was the biggest achievement.

However, the opposition leaders said the report card was farce. “Though the Commissioner has done a wonderful job, the corporation has failed to perform. They are claiming they have planted one lakh trees. I challenge them to show us even 20,000 trees they claim to have planted,” said Varyam Kaur leader of opposition in EDMC.

“One of the road was waterlogged in my constituency two days back. The efficiency of the corporation could be assessed from the fact that the corporation officials could not manage a pumping set to flush the water out of the road,” he added.
