Last Updated 01 November 2012, 20:05 IST

To reinforce moral values among students, CBSE has introduced an education tool on Thursday which will serve as a broad guideline for teachers on moral education.

“Moral education is essential for all children today. Universal ideals of love, peace, tolerance, forgiveness, humility, non-violence and sacrifice are the corner stone of education,” said M M Pallam Raju, newly elected Human Resource Development minister.

The Value Education Kit consists of a Values Education Teachers Handbook and a CD with eight songs. It has activity cards for students from nursery to class 12.

Shashi Tharoor, minister of state for Human Resource Development, who was also present at the launch said, “Education is more than producing well-filled minds, it is also about well- formed minds. In order to cope with challenges because of lack of ethical education among students, CBSE is bringing about reforms in its curriculum.”

“The Values Education Curriculum takes into account the fact that the materials offered are interactive, addressing current issues with opportunities for critical thinking,” said Vineet Joshi, chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education.
