Inspired by reality

Being inspired by real life incidents for movies is nothing new. First-time director Priya Belliappa will soon launch a movie based on the murder that took place in the year 2003.

What sets this film apart is the fact that she has on board an entire group of all-women technicians. Talking to Metrolife Priya says, “When I came to this industry, I saw that it was largely a male-dominated one and I wanted to bring in a change. Which is why I have roped in all my girlfriends from the film institute that I studied in Pune to come and work with me. And that’s how we are here.”

The real-life incident is the murder of the software engineer by his girlfriend Shubha. Which is why the movie too has been aptly titled ‘Ring Road Shubha’. “This was a
really interesting story and I have only taken the thread of the incident and given my own twist to it. I really want people to see how the story has been taken forward from there on,” says Priya, who is yet to finalise the lead heroine.

This being an all-women team she says that the movie will tell the woman’s perspective without any bias. “We have approached the movie rationally and given a very
balanced story,” she adds.

The shoot for the movie will start in December in
Bangalore. It will be produced by Ranjini Ravindra Das, the camera will be handled by Maulshri Singh, dialogues are by Rekha Rani and Sanchari Das Mollick is the

An actor in the making

He has done close to 95 movies and 60 serials and now he is raring to do more. The actor in question is Master Chiranjeevi. This child artiste, all of 11 years, says that even though he has seen himself umpteen times on the big screen, he still gets excited about watching himself on it. His recent release was the historical movie  Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna.

Ask him if it was difficult to act in a historical movie and he says, “I have done so many historical subjects in the serials, so this was easy to do. I was comfortable with the language and didn’t have to struggle too much,” says Chiranjeevi, who plays the role of Darshan’s nephew in the movie.

When asked where he sees himself in the future, he says, “I would love to act in as many movies as I can. As an artiste, I would love to do different kind of roles that will give me satisfaction. But I give equal attention to my studies and balance both,” he signs off.

Controversial item number

Aindrita Ray has joined the bandwagon of ‘item girls’ after performing a ‘special’ number in the movie Prem Adda. She recently shot for a song in Prem Adda, directed by Mahesh Babu starring Prem and Kriti Kharbanda in the lead.

Now the song has come under the scanner because of its lyrics. Earlier called Melukote Hudugi, the song had to be changed to Ellukote Hudugi as a couple of organisations objected because it projected a bad image of people from Melkote.

Prem, however, couldn’t imagine that a song could create such a protest. “The song had become really popular and there was nothing derogatory in the lyrics. But we respect the sentiments of the people living there and have changed the lyrics,” he adds. The first print of the film is almost ready and is slated for release later this month.

Comfortable with herself

After a long time, Nikita Thukral is being seen on screen playing the love interest of Darshan in the historical film Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna. The actress, who recently went through a huge controversy says that she is excited about the film and is happy with the initial response as well.

Calling it her dream role, Nikita says that working in the movie has been an experience she will never forget. “I have worked very hard in this movie. Be it costumes,  dialect or the role, everything was a challenge and a learning experience,” she adds.
When it comes to the language, Nikita had to learn the colloquial Kannada. “I had to relearn everything that I knew.

This was very different. But I trained hard and gave it my best and people can see my efforts on screen,” she adds. But what Nikita didn’t have to worry too much about was her weight. She jokes that she actually had to put on a couple of kilos for the role. “The film is about the time when women were ‘healthier’ and carried off their weight well. So, I had to really put on a bit of weight to suit the character,” she adds.
