The constituencies which have favoured Moily are Chikkaballapur, Gowribidanur, Bagepalli and Devanhalli. He has garnered the maximum number of votes from these four constituencies.

In Hoskote, Doddaballapur and Yelahanka he had trailed the BJP candidate C Ashwathanarayan. In Chikkaballapur he had got 19214 more votes than the BJP candidate, in Gowrabidanur 11,649, in Bagepalli 17,393, in Devanahalli 17,116 and in Nelamangala 3,392 more votes than his nearest rival.

But in Hoskote he had got 3,366 less votes, in 10,083 and in Doddaballapur 11,706 less votes than the BJP candidate. In all these three constituencies Ashwathanarayan of BJP was ahead.Since in all these three constituencies there were BJP legislators, Moily had to take a back seat. Even though in Nelamangala there was a BJP legislator still they were not able to gain more votes than Moily it is said.

Reasons

Among the three candidates in the fray in Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha constituency, Moily was ahead in many aspects. In the education field he had more qualifications than his rivals. Even in politics he was a senior. Both the BJP and JD(S) candidates were raw to politics.

The other reasons for Moily’s victory are the work he had done as a minister and chief minister. The people were impressed with the promises he made during the campaign.
The other reason is releasing a separate election manifesto for the Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha constituency that helped Moily gain people’s confidence in him. They also trusted him when he made all those election promises which resulted in his victory.

Even though he was a new face to Chikkaballapur constituency, he was still well-known among the people. He had a good relations with the politicians from this region for many years.

There are many who are so close to him that they address him in singular in these parts. There is no doubt that all these factors have helped him to make his maiden entry into Lok Sabha.

Many lose deposits

Out of the 20 candidates who contested from the Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha constituency 17 have lost their deposits.

M Veerappa Moily of Congress secured 3,90,500 votes, C Ashwath Narayana of BJP 339119 votes, C R Manohar of JD(S) have secured 186075 votes.
