‘I would like to work in real cinema’

pretty Lisa Haydon

Model-turned-actress Lisa Haydon is a pretty well-known face in Bollywood. She was seen in Aisha, playing a foreign-returned girl with an accent and a sharp sense of business. But she admits that what she really wants is to play a strong-headed girl on screen — because she can relate to such a character.

“I would like to play girls that have brave souls and characters — something that is raw. I would like to work in real cinema because I kind of relate to that kind of role better,” Lisa says. “The roles that I am looking for are de-glam ones,” she adds.

She was last seen in David Dhawan’s ‘Rascals’. Her role in her 2010 debut, Aisha, was a pretty small one. However, this doesn’t bother Lisa in the least. In fact, she says, “I am not opposed to smaller roles either. I think you can showcase talent and character in smaller roles as well. I am open to everything that is meaningful.”

Soon, the 26-year-old will be seen on the small screen hosting ‘Hunt For Kingfisher Calender Girl 2013’.  And being a calendar girl herself, she accepts that this is a great platform. “It is if you want to be a supermodel or get into Bollywood. Given the kind of media exposure a Kingfisher calendar girl gets, it’s definitely the best platform.

It’s like a big break as every big producer, director or industrialist sees the calendar,” she adds. Asked what qualities are being looked for in the girls, she adds, “They have to be confident, beautiful and a good storyteller as well — someone who is an all-round package.”

Responsible for his career decisions

Actor Aftab Shivadasani, who made a promising debut at the age of 19 with Mast, is yet to taste a resounding success in his career — but he says he does not blame anyone for his choice of films. “My journey has had lots of ups and downs. I have received accolades and criticism. I don’t blame anyone for my failure.

I take responsibility for my career decisions.  This industry works like that — there are risks. Having said that, I am grateful to god for everything that has come my way so far,” Aftab says.

The 34-year-old started as a child artiste in commercials as well as films like ‘Mr India’, Shahenshah, ChaalBaaz and Insaniyat.

After Mast, he went on to star in films like Kasoor, Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai, Awara Paagal Deewana, Hungama, ‘Footpath’, Masti and Koi Aap Sa. Aftab went low key for two years by not taking up many film assignments. When asked if it was a conscious decision to stay away from the big screen, the actor replies, “I did not decide to stay away from films. I was not happy with the kind of offers that were coming my way.

I want to do good work. I waited for two years to get the right kind of role because I did not want to make any hasty decision. I want to do commercial films. I want to work with big film-makers.

I don’t want to do ten films a year. In the mean time, I got the opportunity to work on myself.”. The actor, who was last seen in Bin Bulaye Baraati, is ready for the release of his upcoming film — Vikram Bhatt’s production ‘1920: Evil Returns’.

‘Salman is strong and silent’

Director Kabir Khan, who cast Salman Khan as a RAW agent in Ek Tha Tiger, says the actor is suitable to play the role of India’s James Bond. “Salman, I think, has the charisma and the sheer presence that a Bond needs,” the 41-year-old says.

“You look at him, he is strong, silent. But you know when he goes into action, there is going to be a lot of thrill,” he says, adding, “When I was making Ek Tha Tiger, I was conscious that we didn’t want to do a Bond because I feel that there is a difference between Hindi films and Hollywood films. In our films, even in love stories, our heroes are James Bond — so there has to be a differentiator.”

However, Kabir did incorporate a few aspects of Bond movies. “We stayed away from the sort of Bond style of presenting an agent. But a lot of effort was taken to make it international,” he sums up.
