Spain sees State as prime investment location

Ambassador of Spain to India, Gustavo de Aristegui, who was on a maiden visit to Karnataka on Tuesday evinced interest in furthering  the ties between Spain and Karnataka.

Aristegui, who paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar here, reportedly proposed to bring in mega-infrastructure projects to the State.

His team may visit Karnataka in January and February. Surbhi Sharma, the Honorary Consul of Spain, claimed that the European nation is a leader in global infrastructure projects and that they regarded Karnataka as a “priority within priority” for their investments in India.

“Spain is really keen to invest in projects including roads, bridges, intra-rail networks, renewable energy projects (solar and wind) and projects involving water and waste management.

Spain is also keenly watching the aerospace sector in Karnataka, especially the ‘Aerospace City’ being planned in the State. Spain is already bidding for defence aeronautics projects in India,” she said.

A Spanish company – Acciona, had set up a wind energy plant in Chitradurga.
“There is a lot of scope for collaboration and possibilities in bringing about a transformation. For the moment there is nothing in the pipeline, but by next year we should be participating in many projects in the State,” Sharma said.
