'Verdict in State is pro-development'

Elections to the BBMP soon: CM

The BJP registered its best ever performance in the Lok Sabha elections bagging 19 of the 28 seats in the State. However, it fell short of Yeddyurappa’s dream figure of securing 22 to 24 seats. “We could have achieved the numbers had there been a little more effort. However, it is quite satisfactory,” Yeddyurappa informed at a press conference.“Elections are over now. It is time they (the Opposition) bow and accept the people’s verdict,” he said.

On the NDA faring poorly and his dream of “making L K Advani Prime Minister” not materialising, Yeddyurappa said, “Our national leadership will analyse the factors and take necessary action to further strengthen the BJP and NDA,” he said. “We have already been subjected to step-motherly treatment by the Centre. We hope at least the new government will help us in development of the State,” Yeddyurappa said. With the party securing all the three segments in Bangalore urban, Yeddyurappa said the government will hold the elections to the BBMP at the earliest. “We will sweep the polls,” he predicted.

He said the tacit understanding between the JD(S) and the Congress had resulted in the BJP losing by a narrow margin in several constituencies including Gulbarga and Bidar. When pointed out that BJP too had won by a slender margin in Bellary, Yeddyurappa said, “Shantha is an ST woman. She fought against a sitting MP, a legal luminary and won. Is it not an achievement ?.”
