Swiss justice ministry opposes bail for Polanski

The Swiss justice ministry said on Tuesday that it opposed bail for Oscar-winning film maker Roman Polanski, who was arrested in Switzerland more than 10 days ago on a US warrant.
“Yesterday (Monday) we asked the Federal Criminal Tribunal in Bellinzona to reject Polanski’s appeal,” a spokesman for the ministry’s office, Folco Galli, said.

The spokesman said the authorities believed that there was a “great danger” that the 76-year-old French Polish filmmaker would flee pending a full extradition request from the United States on a 32-year-old child sex case in California.
