<p>This Diwali could see higher level of pollution in Delhi, if the present weather condition of low temperature and less wind continues, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said on Thursday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“In case the present meteorological condition of lower temperature, coupled with stable atmosphere prevail on Diwali day also, higher concentration of pollutants is expected,” CPCB member secretary J S Kamyotra said.<br /><br />To assess the ambient air quality and noise level in the Capital before and after Diwali, CPCB recently conducted a monitoring exercise in the city at nine different locations.<br />The monitoring was conducted at AIIMS, Lajpat Nagar, Connaught Place, Mayur Vihar, Kamla Nagar, Pitampura, East Arjun Nagar, Dilshad Garden and Pragati Maidan.<br /><br />“The monitoring will be repeated again on Diwali day to monitor and record the change in pollution level,” he said. The levels of major air pollutants like carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and noise will be monitored during the exercise.<br /><br />CPCB has also asked the State Pollution Control Boards and Pollution Control Committees to conduct ambient noise and air quality monitoring on November 13 (Diwali) to assess the impact of bursting of fire crackers in major cities.<br /><br />“Zonal offices of the CPCB will also monitor the ambient air quality and noise levels on Diwali and pre-Diwali days,” a CPCB release said. The Board has also been requesting through advertisements to bring down noise level during the festival and minimise bursting of fire crackers.</p>
