Accused offered loan at 1 pc interest without any surety

Suspecting a person to be a cheat, residents of K Hosakoppalu near here caught hold of him disrobed, assaulted and handed him over to the police.

The accused, who has identified himself as Nagaraja from a finance firm in Mysore, was allegedly wooing farmers that a loan of Rs 80,000 would be provided at the rate of one per cent interest without providing any surety.

It has been alleged that Nagaraja was collecting a fee of Rs 300 for the application forms and was insisting on a DD for Rs 4,500 towards the first installment for the release of the loan amount.

When some alert villagers enquired him about the processing of the loan, Nagaraja realising his game was over tried to escape. But they held him and handed him over to the police.
