‘Horizon Series’

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), in collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, will be presenting a bharata­natyam dance recital under the ‘Horizon Series’ on November 10, 6.30 pm at the Khincha Auditorium, Bhar­atiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Cour­se Road. It will feature Seshadri Iyengar, an empanelled artiste of the ICCR and neo-classical dancer and choreographer.

Hindustani recital

As part of the 31st Var­shikotsav 2012, Hindustani Raga Sangeet will be presented by Pandit Ven­katesh Kumar and Vidushi Girija Devi on November 10, 6 pm. Ravindra Yavagal will be on tabla and Vyasmurti Katti on har­monium. The event will be held at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. This event is being organised by Sursagar and ICCR. Entry is free.

Double treat

Antara Artists’ Collective is organising a sitar jugalbandi by Ustad Rais Bale Khan and Ustad Hafiz Bale Khan from Dharwad on November 11, 6 pm at Indiranagar Sangeet Sabha, 7th Cross, off  80-ft Road. They will be accompanied on tabla by Rajendra Nakod.

This will be followed by an evening of kathak by celebrated maestro pandit Rajendra Gangani. Gangani is a renowned kathak dancer of the Jaipur gharana, and a Sangeet Natak Academy awardee. He will be accompanied by Vijay Parihar (vocals), Yogesh Gangani (tabla) and Amir Khan (sarangi). Tickets are available at www.indianstage.com and 1000Yoga Studio, 80-ft Road, Indiranagar. Gangani will also hold a three-day intensive workshop, an opportunity for students and teachers of kathak to interact with and learn from him. Swarathma, the City-based Indian folk / fusion band will be performing live at Counter Culture, Whitefield on November 10, 8 pm as a part of the ‘Converse Original Band Hunt’.

For a maestro

The Bangalore School of Music is presenting ‘Musicians for Carlton’ – a charity event – on November 10, 6.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. The concert aims to raise funds for the ailing jazz legend Carlton Kitto of Kolkata who is in need of funds for a complicated back surgery.

Trance around

The UK dance superstars ‘Above & Beyond’ will celebrate the 450th episode of their landmark radio show, ‘Trance Around the World’, with a live concert from the Jayamahal Palace on November 10. They will be joined by some of the most exciting DJs from across the UK and America, including Mat Zo, Norin and Rad, Andrew Bayer and Jody Wisternoff.

‘Odissi Sandhya’

Odissi Sandhya, an evening of odissi recital, will be presented by Madhulita Mohapatra and her Nrityantar team at Purandara Bhavana on November 10, 6.30 pm.

Striking collection

A collection of paintings by Burmese artists titled ‘Burmese Expressions’ will be held on November 10 and 11, 11 am to 7 pm at Renaissance Gallerie, Cunningham Road.

Tasveer is presenting an exhibition titled ‘Sebastian Cortés: Pondicherry’ from November 10 to 30. ‘Pondicherry’ is an exten­ded photo essay, which has as its main focus the photographer’s perception and visual interpretation of the city of Pon­dicherry. The exhibition timing is 10 am to 6 pm (Monday to Sunday) and 12 pm to 7 pm (Sunday). The venue is Cinnamon, 11 Walton Road, off Lavelle Road.
