Bureaucrat-businessmen nexus comes under fire

Last Updated 09 November 2012, 20:03 IST

While making an expose on black money stashed in Swiss banks, Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan attacked the nexus between bureaucrats, business people and politicians.

He cited the example of Sandip Tandon, a former Indian Revenue Service official, who raided on Ambanis when he was with Enforcement Directorate and later joined Reliance as top executive.

The disclosure made on Friday alleges that Sandip Tandon had Rs 125 crore and his parliamentarian wife Anu Tandon had Rs 125 crore in HSBC accounts of Geneva.

Sandeep expired in  Zurich in 2010. He was a top executive of Reliance Industries Ltd.

Before joining Reliance in 1994, he was with the Indian Revenue Service. As an officer of the Enforcement Directorate, Tandon had investigated the foreign front companies floated by Reliance and also conducted a raid.

The entire family has close connections with Mukesh Ambani, with two of their sons also being employees of Reliance.

“First he made a raid and then left IRS to join Reliance,” alleged Kejriwal.

“Anti-graft leaders said that Annu Tandon, the Congress MP from Unnao is  said to be in the core group of Rahul Gandhi,” he said.

“Whose money is this? Kejriwal asked.
