Muslim woman travelling with Hindu driver beaten up

A group of youths allegedly affiliated to the Karnataka Forum for Dignity beat up and robbed a young Muslim woman, who was travelling in a car driven by a Hindu man at Maravoor near Bajpe on Thursday.

The youths sped away with Rs 3.07 lakh in cash.

According to a complaint filed by the girl’s mother, Zubeida, her 23-year-old daughter Deeba was on her way to pay Rs three lakh as deposit to their landlord when the group waylaid the car, thrashed her daughter and driver and robbed the money. The thugs also allegedly stole Deeba’s mobile phone.

In her complaint to the police, Deeba said that the thugs spoke the Beary language and she added that she could identify them. Both the injured have been admitted to a hospital.

Zubeida is an independent member of the Padubidri Gram Panchayat.
