The BDA had in 1970 notified three acres of land in Sarakki Agrahara village for the construction  of JP Nagar 2nd phase. Over a period of time, some people under the shelter of court cases, had put up four RCC buildings including a three-storeyed building of 3,000 sq ft area and nine AC sheet sheds in the notified area.

As the bulldozers ripped apart the RCC houses and the small homes, the inmates stood out watching helplessly. Families were stranded with no shelter, as the demolition drive continued through the day, even as the women and children wept. According to the BDA, 10 families which resided in the vicinity were forewarned about the demolition drive.
