Delhi remain in control of match

If Delhi had hoped for an encore of day one, the reality would have stirred them out of the comfort zone. Odisha refused to be denied in their second innings and occupied the crease for 88 overs to frustrate the hosts on a warm Sunday afternoon at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium.

Govind Poddar (85, 171b, 15x4) was the force behind Odisha’s resilience on the third day and delighted the handful in the stands with his delectable drives. In the process, Odisha not only wiped out an imposing 188 first innings runs lead but also nosed ahead by 47 runs.
Though Delhi recovered to reduce Odisha for 229/6 in 93 overs at close and could hope to pull off an outright victory, Odisha can be proud of the way they fought back. Nataraj Behera (35) and Deepak Behera (4) were holding fort when bad light stopped play.

Delhi, though, hit the right note in the morning when both Odisha openers were packed off for 59, with Pawan Suyal (2/62) trapping Paresh Patel leg before in the fifth ball of the day.
But Poddar, who had stroked a century on first-class debut (106) against Baroda in 2010, put his head down alongwith Biplab Samantray  (47) and held on till lunch for 121/2. The two forged 84 runs for the third wicket before Sumit Narwal (3/41) provided the breakthrough by clattering Poddar’s wickets.

Brief scores: Odisha 143 all out & (O/n: 62/3) 229/6 in 93 overs (Abhilash Mallick 26, Govind Podder 85, Biplab Samantray 47, Natraj Behera 35 batting; Pawan Suyal 2-62, Sumit Narwal 3-41) vs Delhi 331.
