Signature campaign against parking lot plan

Last Updated 11 November 2012, 18:20 IST

The Lalbagh Walkers’ Association and several other citizens together have urged the government to drop the proposal to set up a 500-car capacity parking lot within the Lalbagh Botanical Garden.

The association in a press statement said that it would organise more protests against any such move. “The initial protests have been able to halt the construction while a committee looks into the impact,” it said.

The association has launched an online petition campaign aimed at gathering more support and drawing attention to the issue along with on-ground protests in Lalbagh.

Professor Sadashiva Reddy, President of the Walkers’ Association, initiated the campaign on greenpeacex.in, an online platform which allows individuals to launch petition campaigns and gather support.

“The petition has been able to gather more than 200 signatures in less than 24 hours,” the release claimed.

On Sunday, members of the Association, freedom fighter H S Doreswamy and other volunteers from Greenpeace and India Against Corruption staged a protest on the premises of the Botanical Garden.
