Asian gold medallist athlete Pinki Pramanik on Wednesday said that she would file defamation case against the police and the government lawyer for outraging the modesty of woman.

The reaction came after police filed a chargesheet on Monday terming the athlete as a male and was capable of committing rape. The athlete has also been charged under sections 376 (rape), 417 (impersonation), 420 (cheating), 325 (assault) and 506 (intimidation), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of a lawful marriage).

Speaking to Deccan Herald over phone, she said, “I am really frustrated with the police. Very soon I will slap a defamation case against the police and the additional public prosecutor for defaming me and trying to outrage my modesty”.

Pinki added, “Police from the very beginning is very much biased. They are always trying to defame me....I don’t know why? Infact after the court said that I am incapable of committing rape they slapped rape charges against me”.

When asked how police got access to her medical report which was supposed to be in the custody of the court, the athlete said, “Police will have to answer all these questions. I shall fight my case in the court”.

The incident surfaced, on June 14, when the victim- a divorcee and a mother of one who had been living-in with Pramanik for the last few months, lodged a complaint at Baguihati police station alleging that the athlete is a male and she (he) has beaten, tortured and raped her following which the athlete was arrested by the police.

Subsequent to the arrest, Pramanik was taken to a private nursing home for a medical check-up where the test reports showed that the former athlete was indeed a male.
