Play cancelled as director dies in house collapse

Everything was organised and in order for the staging of “Sasalu Chennamma”, a mythological Telugu play in S Devaganahalli of Shidlaghatta taluk on Thursday.

However, the key person behind the play, the stage director died in an accident resulting in the play being cancelled.

Narasimhappa (35) died after a wall of a house collapsed in S Devaganahalli, while Manjunath (38) sustained grievous injuries. Some actors also sustained injuries.

Other interests

Narasimhappa, who was a labourer, was also a engaged in theatre activities. He hailed from Gandlachintapalli near Dibburahalli and was proficient in stage craft.

He was sitting in a house in S Devaganahalli discussing about the play to be staged on Thursday, when the wall collapsed on him and he died, while Manjunath of the same village sustained serious injuries.

He was rushed to a hospital in Bangalore.

Daily wages

Both Narasimhappa and Manjunath depended on daily wages for their livelihood, yet they were dedicated to theatre.

Narasimhappa is survived by a wife and two daughters. Manjunath has wife, a son and two daughters.
