University of Mysore is in news again for all the wrong reasons landing the students of Home Science College of Holenarsipur in soup by creating confusion in their optional English marks.

The students of the college disclosing the issue to the media, said that they are literally unaware of the original marks obtained by them in the Optional English subject.

Students were surprised when their results were announced as 10 of the second year BA students had failed in the English language while they had passed in Optional English subject. Few among them  even have been given single digit marks. Other 10 students have failed in Optional English and passed in the English language.

As per the instructions of the college principal H Channa Veerappa the students who had failed in Optional English wrote a letter to the registrar of evaluation of UoM as they were sure of not failing in Optional English when they had passed the language subject. The letter was dispatched to him on July 31.

There was a shocking blow to the principal who met the registrar along with the 10 students after he received the call on October 31 directing him to meet the registrar personally with the markcards of the students.

Principal was told that the eight among 10 students who had secured failing marks in language English had even failed in Optional English and the markscards of all the 10 students were taken back. However, principal had received no written letter from the registrar to meet him.

There was no heed paid to the principal’s repeated opposition in registrar’s presence. He propounded that when students had not applied for revaluation or recounting the UoM cannot take  a call on revising the marks of the students. Principal was not even given the acknowledgement letter after receiving the markscards forcefully.

After few days, students have received new markscards in which eight students among the 10 who had failed in Optional English were failed in language English too. Though the marks of other two students remained same they had got lesser marks than that secured earlier.

The principal has warned the registrar in a written letter to take appropriate measures immediately and return old markscards of students, on failure of which the case will be fought out legally.
