Lokayukta police trap top BDA official

The Lokayukta police on Friday trapped M R Hiremath, Deputy Commissioner (Land Acquisition) of Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs five lakh.

Hiremath, a senior KAS officer, was arrested along with a condiut, Ramesh, at a cafe in Malleswaram on Friday evening. According to the complaint filed by Nagaraj, a farmer, Hiremath demanded Rs 20 lakh from him to denotify lands in Thanisandra.

The land was acquired by the BDA for the formation of Arkavathy Layout. Nagaraj wanted his land measuring one acre and 16 guntas released from notification in accordance with a Supreme Court judgement.

Hiremath initially demanded Rs 20 lakh but later settled for Rs 16 lakh, Nagaraj alleged.
