Konkani cultural fest in Mangalore from Nov 22

Janapadotsava, Sanskrithik Utsav and Aharotsav to be part of 4-day fiesta

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (Mangalore) will be organising ‘Ammi Konkani,’ a four-day Konkani cultural festival from November 22 to 25 at Mangalore Town Hall.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Kasargod Chinna said that the festival will begin with a colourful procession which will showcase the folk culture. The procession will begin at Jyothi Circle and end at Mangalore Town Hall where the inauguration will be held.

Former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate 'Ammi Konkani' and Karnataka Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat will preside. District-In-Charge Minister C T Ravi, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and others will be the chief guests.

The procession will be inaugurated by Shree Rama Vidhya Kendra Convenor Dr Prabhakar Bhat.

The inaugural will be followed by 'Lokvedh Sambram – Janapadotsava,' a cultural programme where Konkani folk culture will be presented.

'Kaan-Jevaan – Aharotsav,' a food fest having over 200 Konkani delicacies will be held on November 23. Konakni Litterateur Shalini Pandit will inaugurate the fest.

“Sthri Vaibhav-Mahila Sanskrithik Utsav” will be held at 5.30 pm. Mangalore Mayor Gulzar Banu will inaugurate and MLA Mallika Prasad will preside.

“Bhasha Bhaviyek- Multilingual poet's meet” will be held on November 24. Veteran Litterateur Jayanth Kaikini will inaugurate and eminent Konkani Poet Melwin Rodrigues will preside. Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy President Addanda Karyappa, DK Kannada Sahitya Academy President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura will be the chief guests.

'Yuva Sambram – Students cultural fest' will be inaugurated by Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation President Vinod Prabhu.

The 'Ammi Konkani' valedictory will be held on November 25. MLA Krishna J Palemar will deliver the valedictory address and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Kasargod Chinna will preside. The valedictory will be followed by 'Konkani Sangeet Sanj – Musical evening'.

Chinna added that over 1000 artistes, over 60 VIPs are expected to partake in cultural fiesta.
