Stay united for rights, DVS urges Kharvis

Former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda called upon Konkani speaking Kharvi community members to stay united to fight for their rights.

Speaking after inaugurating ‘Konkani Kharvi Development Covention-2012’, here on Sunday, the former CM said that the BJP government has worked towards the welfare of the fishermen.

Besides programmes like Matsyashraya housing scheme and loans to fisherwomen at low interest rate, the state government has given subsidies to around 1.25 crore kilo litres of diesel till date. The budget of the BJP government in the State aims at reaching out to last man in the society. The current budget has allocated Rs 1000 crore for the development of backward classes, he added.

He stressed on the need for the children of Konkani Kharvi community to get educated. The foundation stone was laid for a community hall, by Manipal Global Education Services Chairman T V Mohandas Pai on the occasion.
