An innovative approach

Quiz competitions are not often met with excitement by the students. But the five-day quiz fest that took place at  BMS College of Engineering was unique. More than 10 departments from the college participated in it, and the questions were both innovative and interesting

.

The brainchild of a team of six students of the college, the quiz fest was a huge hit and the auditorium buzzed with energy on all five days. The entertainment quiz, however, stole the show as it had around 100 teams participating in it. “We started preparing for the quiz around a year ago and each of us took care of different rounds. One of our friends, Abhishek, designed the posters. These were put up all over the campus almost a week ago to ensure  maximum participation. We also had put up the posters and information on some social networking sites to popularise the concept. The response has been great and many departments, such as electronics, mechanical, instrumentation etc, participated actively,” informs Akshath, one of the co-ordinators of the quiz competition.

Various genres like general quiz, entertainment quiz, business  and technical quiz were included in the fest. There was a special round for the girls. “We had an all girls’ quiz. We felt that the participation of the girls was pretty low. Therefore, this round was organised. On Monday, we had a quiz session based on literature and also a general quiz round,” adds Akshath.

Himadri, who was the quiz master for the ‘Shady Quiz’ round, was quite entertaining with his one-liners and quirky sense of humour. Sharath Babu, one of the co-ordinators of the quiz fest, was of the opinion that the questions were original as they were compiled and framed by them. “We wanted to introduce a new dimension to quizzing and have tried different things in the fest. It was challenging as well as fun and it was meant for people who had the hunger to know new things and a passion for knowledge. We started
digging trivias and other pieces of information to frame questions,” he sums up.
