Punjab books 11 officers for power meter graft

Punjab Vigilance Bureau officials on Wednesday registered a case against eleven officials, including chief engineer of Bathinda Development Authority for allegedly committing irregularities during checking of electricity works executed in district Mansa.

The bureau has conducted an inquiry about the electricity  works executed by BDA in Mour Mandi, Mansa and Budhlada towns and grave irregularities were found, Suresh Arora, DGP-cum-chief director of the vigilance bureau, said.

The vigilance bureau has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and various sections of the IPC against chief engineer Tarlochan Singh, superintending engineer Paramjit Singh, three SDOs- Chanchal Ram, Harminder Singh and Umesh Kaushal, two junior engineers- Gurdeep Singh and Swarndeep Arora, section officer Amit Garg, three contractors- Bhushan Kumar Thakural, Pawan Kumar Sighal and Kulbir Sahni.

Arora said that it was detected that the accused government officials in connivance with contractors had caused a loss to the tune of over Rs eight crore to the state exchequer.
He said further investigations were under progress.
