The 5th edition of the Bangalore Nano with the focal theme on advanced material and business opportunities in nanotechnology, will be held in Bangalore for two days from December 6.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, eminent scientist and chairman of Vision Group on Nanotechnology C N R Rao said the two-day event will witness the academia, researchers and industry discuss the latest breakthroughs in nanotechnology.

More than 150 international and Indian companies have confirmed their participation in the event. Key speakers this year include Sir Richard Friend from Cavendish Laboratory, Michael Klein from Temple University, Philadelphia and Masakazu Aono, National Institute for Material Science, Japan. The conference sessions will focus on nano-applications in medicines, biotech and material synthesis.

The event will witness representation from 10 countries including the United States, France, Japan and Italy. A special programme “Nano for the young” for around 400 students from various engineering, medical and biotech colleges across Bangalore will feature in the event. Details of the event can be accessed on www.bangalorenano.in. The conference will be held at Hotel Lalit Ashok.

Rao reiterated that a specialised nanotechnology research centre in Bangalore, cleared by the Central Government last year, will take shape within the next two months.
The institute will come up on a 14-acre campus in Dobespet. “With the setting up of the new research institute, Bangalore will be the hub of nanotechnology. The Centre has already sanctioned around Rs 80 crore this year for the existing nano-technology research units at Indian Institute of Science and Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research,” Rao said.
