A 28-year-old woman has alleged that the manager and representatives of Costa Coffee’s Connaught Place outlet have been threatening her since she lodged a complaint with senior officials of the British multinational coffee house after finding a razor blade in a sandwich last month.

Ramya Nair of Spring Field Colony in Faridabad sector 32, claimed the incident took place when she visited Costa Coffee’s L-8 outlet to purchase snacks on October 10. “I purchased grilled sandwiches from the outlet and when I opened the packed food and started eating, there was a half razor blade (Topaz) in the sandwich,” Ramya said in her statement to police.

She started bleeding after taking a bite on which she informed the outlet’s manager. She later lodged a formal complaint with the manager and online on Costa Coffee’s website.
Ramya has now approached police claiming that the manager, and other senior officials and representatives of Costa Coffee have been continuously putting pressure on her to withdraw the complaint. She further alleged that they have also been alluring her with vouchers.

“The complainant claimed that Costa Coffee’s officials have been meeting her to threaten some way or the other to force her to withdraw the complaint,” a police official said.

The 28-year-old further accused the outlet’s employees of being involved in unethical trade practices and putting life of people at risk. Police have lodged a case of causing hurt by act endangering life over Ramya’s statement with Connaught Place police station.

“We received Ramya’s complaint on Wednesday after which a case under section 337 of the Indian Penal Code was lodged. An investigation has begun and we plan to record statements of all the people involved. Action will be taken if the woman’s allegations are confirmed,” the official added.

A copy of Ramya’s complaint has also been sent to Delhi Police commissioner, deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) and Department of Prevention of Food Adulteration.
