Father kills girl to save his honour

He opposed her decision to marry a Muslim

A man conspired and allegedly got his daughter killed as she was in love with a man from a different religion.

The incident occurred in Mirzapur district on Tuesday.  But the police were able to crack the case only on Thursday.

According to reports, 20-year-old Kajal Singh (name changed) and Afzal, both residents of Bijpur in Sonebhadra district were in love for the past few months.

Kajal’s family was opposed to the relationship as the boy was from a different religion. The family members tried to persuade Kajal to end up her affair, but she remained adamant and insisted on marrying Afzal, police said.

When all efforts to persuade Kajal failed, her father Lallan Singh hatched a conspiracy to kill her and roped his son-in-law to do the job.

The son-in-law took an unsuspecting Kajal to a deserted place on the pretext of taking her to some relation and hacked her to death with the help of some others.

The culprits also tried to disfigure her face so that she could not be identified.

The cops had recovered some vital clues from the spot and managed to reach Lallan Singh, who confessed to the crime after sustained interrogation.

He told police that he could not have allowed her daughter to marry someone who was not from his religion. The son-in-law and others are still absconding.

Several lovers had been killed in the past in UP, especially in the Jat dominated western region for defying their families.

The all powerful khaps, the caste panchayats, have made it clear that they will not allow love marriages and marriages in the same gotra.

They have also punished lovers for defying their diktat.

Only a few days back, a youth was allegedly killed by his lover’s father in Lakhimpur-Kheri district.
