The State government on Saturday appointed IAS officer S Dayashankar and State BJP vice-president Mangala Sridhar as members of the Karnataka Public Services Commission.

A Lingayat, Dayashankar’s name was mooted for this post by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. Yeddyurappa had brought pressure on his successor D V Sadananda Gowda to name Dayashankar as KPSC member.

With this appointment, Dayashankar, who was to retire in two years time, has now got an extension of two years. The term of the post is four-and-half years. A KAS promotee, Dayashankar had served as personal secretary to former chief ministers J H Patel, Yeddyurappa and D V Sadananda Gowda. He will be occupying the post vacated by S Rudregowda.

Mangala, a dalit leader, has already resigned from the party’s primary membership. She is occupying the post vacated by J T Chandrashekarappa. A PhD holder, she had unsuccessfully contested the BBMP elections. After the BJP came to power, she was briefly appointed the chairperson of the Karnataka State Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
