'Complete Mani-Madikeri road within time frame'

The work on filling potholes on Shiradi Ghat will commence shortly

District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi has warned off initiating criminal action against the KRDCL official and contractor, if they fail to complete the work on Mani-Madikeri road within the time frame.

Speaking at the tri-monthly KDP review meeting here on Saturday, he said that  travelling on the road has become a nightmare for the vehicle users.
KRDCL Superintendent engineer said that the road from Mani to Madikeri will be completed by May 31, 2013. The contractor has promised to complete 10 km road by December 31.

On the deplorable condition of the road, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the roads have been dug at Kavu, Puttur, and Sullia, causing severe inconvenience to the vehicle users. To which, the Minister directed the official to complete the work on the road in the town limits on priority basis.

MLA U T Khader said that the Shiradi Ghat road is filled with potholes. There is a need to initiate measures to fill the potholes. To which, the Minister said that Rs 1.60 crore has released by the government to repair road. The engineer promised to start the work on filling the potholes within 15 days, after calling short term tender.

As none of the official from National Highway Authority of India had turned up to the meeting, the Minister said “the official from NHAI is showing disrespect to the KDP meeting, by not attending the meeting. There is a need to initiate action against the official.”

KSRTC city services

Raising the issue of  cut in the number of KSRTC bus services to Mudipu, Khader said that the residents are aggrieved with recent withdrawal of services following objections by private operators.

The official from KSRTC said following the order of the RTA, the trips have been cut. Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda said that private bus operators had questioned the decision of permitting trips to Mudipu before the State Transport Authority and the Karnataka High Court. Accordingly, the RTA had decided to withdraw a few of the trips. To which, the Minister directed the DC to issue permits for the convenience of the people.

Ration cards

When the Minister asked how many ration cards can be printed in a day with one machine, the official said that only 40 can be printed, following the problem in server. Enraged over the reply, the Minister directly called Minister for Food and Civil Supplies D N Jeevraj, who in turn directed the official to complete the process of printing the pending ration cards within a week.

Drinking water

Ravi called upon the officials to ensure that there was no shortage of drinking water in the summer. He said “give priority to drinking water and monitor the flow of water to the dam much in advance.”

Zilla Panchayat Executive Engineer Sathyarayana said that Kinnigoli multi-village drinking water scheme will be completed by December end and Malavoor dam will be completed by May, 2013.

Stern action

When MLA Khader raised the issue of Maoists in Dakshina Kannada, the Minister said that stern action will be initiated against those who challenge the democracy. “We will not sympathise Maoists,” he said.
