Charges framed against ex minister and 60 accused in Naroda Patiya case

Charges were also framed against some VHP and Bajrang Dal workers who are accused in the case, by designated Judge Jyotsna Yagnik.
A total of 95 persons belonging to the minority community were killed by a mob on February 28, 2002, in Naroda Patiya area of the city, during the violence that broke out after the Godhra train burning incident.

Charges against two other accused in the case would be filed tomorrow as they were not present in the court today, Assistant Public Prosecutor Gaurang Vyas said.
The cross-examination of witnesses would begin from October 27, he said.

All the accused have been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 302 (murder), 307 (attempted murder), 323, 324, 325 (causing grievous hurt with deadly weapons), 367 (kidnapping in order to cause grievous hurt) and various other sections.

The case is among the post Godhra riot cases being investigated by the Supreme Court appointed special investigation team.
