India, China exchange ideas to keep border calm

Last Updated 30 November 2012, 19:35 IST

India and China exchanged ideas about measures to be taken to maintain ''peace'' along the disputed border between the two neighbours ahead of National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon’s proposed meeting with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on the contentious issue next week.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the two delegations had on Thursday and Friday reviewed developments along the India-China border since the officials of the two countries had held the first meeting under the newly instituted mechanism last May.

According to MEA spokesman Syed Akbaruddin, both India and China “acknowledged with satisfaction that peace and tranquility continued to be maintained due to the efforts from both sides”.
