BSP keeps UPA guessing on FDI vote

Last Updated 30 November 2012, 19:55 IST

The Bahujan Samaj Party kept the UPA government guessing as party supremo Mayawati said the party’s stand on voting on FDI in multi-brand retail in Parliament will be declared on the floor of the House.

Meanwhile, the government moved amendments to FEMA regulations, which includes operationalisation of the controversial decision to allow FDI in the multi-brand retail.

“Whenever the FDI issue will be taken up in the House, we will make our party’s stand clear on the floor of the House,” she told reporters outside the Parliament House. The BSP has apparently demanded passage of the SC/ST Promotion Bill in Parliament against support to FDI. However, its political rival in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party, is opposed to the bill.

On Friday, the BJP’s call against FDI got a boost as the Shiromani Akali Dal said it will vote against the government on FDI. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said his party will vote against the government.
