Flash strike

Alleging atrocities by policemen, relatives of a man who committed suicide staged a protest outside the Nandini Layout police station on Saturday. The protesters, who displayed the body outside the station, demanded that action be taken. They alleged that Lokesh (30) had consumed poison after he was threatened by policemen Nagesh, Rajanna and Shivanna. “He was  already mentally weak, as he was tortured by his wife Purnima, and her relatives. The police torture led him to end his life,” Lokesh’s relatives alleged.

The body was shifted after senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the angry protesters.

Lokesh’s relatives told Deccan Herald that differences had cropped up between Lokesh and his wife of seven years, Purnima, since she wanted her husband to move away from his family. “When he did not agree, she left him and went to live with her mother. Purnima began pressing him for a separation even after she left him,” said Ravi, a relative of Lokesh.

Meanwhile, both families had approached the police to solve the crisis. “ Six months ago, Lokesh left Bangalore without informing anyone. On May 12, one of his friends brought him back to Bangalore. He was taken to the police station. Purnima and her relatives were  present there. The policemen threatened him anda scared Lokesh went inside a toilet, consumed poison. The police immediately rushed him to hospital,” said Ravi.
Lokesh succumbed on Saturday morning.

Police said that Lokesh was suffering from a psychological disorder  and denied  having harassed Lokesh.
