Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Wednesday described the recent Supreme Court order in the Cauvery case directing Karnataka to release 10,000 cusecs of water as “partly consoling.”
“But this quantity of water will not suffice to save the standing ‘samba’ crops in Tamil Nadu,” the chief minister said in a statement here on Wednesday evening.
After a high-level meeting of agriculture experts and officials at the secretariat, Jayalalitha announced a new “ten-point crop relief package” costing about Rs 70 crore to help farmers in Tamil Nadu’s Cauvery delta areas.
