JOIN USSeven people, including six of a family, were killed on the spot when a car they were travelling in collided with another car near Manchadevanahalli on the Mysore-Madikeri road, near Periyapatna in the district on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as former ZP member from Koppa, Chowdaiah, Shafi Ahmed (45), his wife Rameeza Begum (38), their children Irfan (19), Taslim (13) and Afnan (4) and Shafi’s brother Rafeeq (23), all from Periyapatna.
The accident occurred at around 7 pm when Shafi, along with his family, was returning home from his wife’s place Suntikoppa. The car collided head on with that of Chowdaiah, who was in the driver’s seat.
The relatives of the deceased thronged the hospitals at Kushalnagar and Periyapatna where the bodies have been kept for post mortem.
Superintendent of Police R Dileep visited the spot. Bylukuppe police have registered a case.
