Lok Adalat to settle power theft cases on weekend

Electricity consumers in east and central Delhi can now avail a single-window clearance for amicably settling their power theft cases. The area distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has decided to hold a two-day lok adalat to deal with the cases.

According to BYPL, the lok adalat will be organised in association with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) on the Karkardooma Court premises this Saturday and Sunday at 10 am. Cases related to direct theft, meter tampering and power theft up to Rs 25 lakh will be taken up.

Customers wanting to get their cases disposed of can either show up in person or send their advocates or authorised representatives.

Do bring your photo identity card and a copy of the penalty bill.

Discom chief executive officer Ramesh Narayanan said this would be the last opportunity for people to settle their power theft cases and in case of a default, the company will be compelled to initiate criminal proceedings against the errant consumers under the relevant provisions of Electricity Act, 2003.

“All litigants are requested to make full use of this opportunity to amicably settle their power theft-related disputes. There are twin advantages in settling cases through such lok adalats — cases can be settled quickly and mutually between the two parties,” said Narayanan.

Around 1,300 cases have been reported from Mayur Vihar, 896 from Patel Nagar and 626 from Vasundhara Enclave.
