Unwell Gowda unable to celebrate win

The reason-he was not feeling well and moreover, both his party and the Third Front failed to perform up to his expectations.

Gowda has been suffering from high blood pressure and a respiratory infection. So he confined himself to the four-walls of his Padmanabhanagar residence. Gowda, who turns 77 on May 18, has been unwell ever since he launched his election campaign.

His son-in-law and Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology Dr Manjunath said he is recovering and will be able to resume his routine in two or three days.

When contacted, a disappointed Gowda said that he was not in a position to speak and asked to contact the party spokesperson Y S V Datta for reactions.

HDK’s impressive feat

JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy hardly had had time to campaign for himself. He spent most of the time campaigning for others.

But he did register a thumping victory in Bangalore rural constituency with a margin of 1,30,275 votes -- the third highest in the State.

The results in Bangalore rural also proved that Kumaranna’s (as he is affectionately called in the constituency) popularity has surged not only in Ramanagar but across Bangalore rural district also.

Through his victory Kumaraswamy has in a way avenged the humiliating defeat his father H D Deve Gowda suffered against Congress’ Tejasvini Gowda in 2004.

Tejasvini has now been relegated to third place, while Bharatiya Janata Party candidate C P Yogeshwara ended up in second place.

Tejasvini remained incommunicado once the results were out.

In fact, Kumaraswamy was not in Ramanagara at the time of counting, but his BJP rival C P Yogeeshwar was present. When Yogeeshwar was trailing by 40,000 votes, he quietly left the place.
