Man strangles wife, dowry death alleged

A man allegedly strangled his wife at their house in Rose Garden Layout, JP Nagar,
Friday night.

Pushpa, 26, from Anekal, was married to Venkatesh from Jaraganahalli two-and-a-half years ago. The couple had no children. They stayed with Venkatesh’s mother Sanjeevamma, her adopted son Jagadish and his wife Yashodha. They were all flower vendors, the police said.

Venkatesh was unemployed and was dependent on his wife’s earnings. He had left the house a month ago and returned recently.

“On Friday, the couple had dinner and went to sleep. Venkatesh got up late night and strangled Pushpa and slept beside the body.

Venkatesh’s mother grew suspicious as the couple did not open the door in the morning. When the family members broke open the door, the couple were found sleeping on the floor. They tried to wake up Pushpa, but she did not respond. Pushpa had bled in her nose and mouth, indicating that she was strangled,” the police added.

Her parents alleged that Venkatesh and his family members had murdered Pushpa for dowry. Sanjeevamma, Jagadish and Yashodha used to instigate Venkatesh to murder Pushpa, they told the police.

The police have arrested Venkatesh, Jagadish and Sanjeevamma. Pushpa’s body has been shifted to KIMS Hospital for post mortem and the report is awaited.
