A youth lost both his hands which were chopped off over a land dispute, in a barbaric incident reported from Karouli district, Rajasthan on Friday.

According to the statement given to the Sapotra police, one Rekh Singh Meena came to the house of victim Pappu Sharma (28) on Thursday evening and informed Sharma that his father Ramjilal Meena wanted to meet him. When Sharma went to Meena’s house, he found Rekh Singh’s uncle Hari Gotiya, with whom Sharma had a land dispute, present there.

Gotiya demanded that Sharma either pay him Rs 25,000 or sign on a stamp paper selling his 10 bigha of land to him which Sharma refused.  Sharma was then beaten up and locked in a room for the whole night.

Though Sharma’s mother came to Meena’s house searching for her son, they sent her back saying that he would return soon.

On Friday morning, Gotyia charged Sharma of having illicit relations with his daughter. The Meenas and Gotiya then robbed Sharma of his silver ring, mobile phone and Rs 10,000 cash. About six relatives of Gotiya then overpowered Sharma and chopped off both his hands with an axe. A profusely bleeding Sharma was rushed to the Gangapur city hospital from where he was referred to Jaipur.

A case under attempt to murder and illegal confinement has been registered against the accused and investigation is on.
