Krishi Mela in Brahmavar on October 11, 12

Briefing media persons here on Thursday, ZARS Brahmavar Associate Director of Research Dr M Hanumanthappa said the main objective of the mela is to introduce latest agricultural technologies to farmers through demonstrations, discussions, field visits and seminars. While the Mela will be inaugurated by Udupi- Chikmagalur MP D V Sadananda Gowda, Vice Chancellor University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore Dr P G Chengappa will preside, he added.

The mela will be organised by the ZARC in asssociation with University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Brahmavar and Bangalore, Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture and Watershed, Sri Khsethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme, District Krishik Samaj, Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Cochin, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank and Vijaya Rural Development Foundation Mangalore, Hanumanthappa said. While a seminar on ‘Profitable cashew cultivation and management of horticultural crops of the coastal zone’ will be held on October 11, another session covering the topic ‘Paddy based integrated cropping systems and organic farming’ will be held on October 12, he said. As many as 60 stake holders are expected to put up their stalls to exhibit latest agriculture technologies at the venue. Demonstrations on high yielding rice varieties and seed production, rainwater harvesting and storage, preparation of dapog nursery and SRI method of cultivation, CO-4 fodder grass demonstration, cashew grafting and soil and water management in cashew gardens will be arranged at stalls, he informed.
