Dacoity gang arrested, weapons seized

The Banaswadi police have arrested a gang of four dacoits led by Mardan Suleiman Khan, brother of Yusuf Khan alias Bachkaan, a notorious aide of Chhota Rajan. The police have recovered two country-made pistols and 11 live bullets, apart from other lethal weapons and a car worth about Rs eight lakh from the arrested.

The gang, it is said, was hatching a plan to threaten, attack commuters and rob them of their valuables at HRBR Colony. The arrested are Mardan Suleiman Khan, 26, Mujibur Rehman, 29, Zamir Ahmed, 26, of Kadugondanahalli and Farooq Khan, 42, of RT Nagar.

Police investigations revealed that Yusuf Khan, who is presently lodged in the Belgaum Central prison in connection with the builder Subbaraju murder case, had arranged for the procurement of three country-made pistols from one of his aides, Wahab of Bijapur, to be used against their rivals. Suleiman Khan had received the consignment, police said.

Police sources said Suleiman Khan too was arrested in a similar case in 2011, when he had procured illegal weapons and was trying to sell them to another notorious rowdy of the City, Ismail Sharif alias Nana. The police had then recovered two country-made pistols. However, Suleiman was soon out on bail.

Police said another person Akram Pasha escaped from the police during the operation. A manhunt has been launched for him.

When quizzed about the source of weapons in the City, senior police officials handling the case told Deccan Herald that a middleman who had procured these weapons for Suleiman and Wahab of Bijapur was absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
