Another member of an armed robbers’ gang has been arrested for  snatching commercial vehicles in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat, police said on Tuesday.

Mushtaq’s arrest on Monday came a day after three members of the gang — Wahid Khan, Mohammad Yusuf and Sailash Kumar Kothari — were held near Pragati Maidan. They are all residents of the Mewat region in Haryana.

“Two gang members Farooq and Shakim are still on the run and efforts are being made to trace them,” said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (special cell).

Investigators had received a tip-off that Mushtaq was hiding in Mewat and was likely to come at Nuh district centre on Monday. A special team was dispatched which located Mushtaq near Nuh bus stand and overpowered him. He was arrested under section 41(1) of the CrPC.

Mushtaq told police that he is Wahid’s relative and was earlier arrested by Rajasthan Police in a cattle theft case.

On June 3, the gang had tried to rob a vehicle belonging to Heera Jewellers in Pitampura by shooting at the security guard, but one of the members was shot dead by the guard. Delhi Police had announced Rs 50,000 for information leading to Wahid’s arrest.
